Players Honor Life of Dear Friend
Losing great people is never easy. The South Dakota Golf Association lost an incredible friend this week that touched the lives of many.
Valerie “Val” Merry, wife of SDGA Executive Director, Wade Merry, lost her 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer earlier this week.
Val was a determined fighter who spread light of hope into spaces that could have been drowned out with darkness. Her life and battle inspired countless friends and family to press on in the hardest times. She reminded all that problems are a matter of perspective, and that any day can be seen as a great day with a few speedbumps instead of impenetrable roadblocks.
She will be greatly missed by everyone in the South Dakota Golf Association, her family, and all of those who she touched both personally and with her story.
In honor of her life and fight against cancer, players this weekend wore ribbon and signed cards for the family at the Match Play Championship.
In lieu of flowers, Valerie's family requests that memorials be directed in her name to the Avera McKennan Foundation Cancer Research Fund.
Blessed be the memory of Valerie Merry.
